Scene to read · Self-awareness, Communication
Every time I ask
You are a senior agent at a call center and have been asked to coach a new hire.
You are coaching Lina, who joined three weeks ago after fifteen years running her family's shop, while still taking your own calls. Many of her questions are answered in the guide you gave her. She has stopped asking, and her error rate is climbing. In the training pod, your team lead, Petra, sits down with you both.
The scene
Petra: Lina, why did you stop asking questions?
Lina: Every time I ask, there's a sigh. Where I'm from, that means stop. I do want to learn.
Petra: You've missed your own call targets three weeks running. Is it true? Should I take training off your plate?
The two questions
- 1What would you say to Lina and Petra?
- 2How can you find out about habits of yours that affect other people when nobody tells you directly?
What raters look for
- Self-awareness
- Recognizes own biases, limits and emotions, and seeks and uses feedback.
- Communication
- Listens first, speaks clearly and respectfully, and adapts the message to the listener.
