Personal question · Self-awareness, Ethics
Credit that wasn't all yours
In school and at work, credit doesn't always land where the effort was. Sometimes the praise, the grade, or the chance to step forward ends up with you, even though much of what earned it came from someone else's time, skill, or quiet work behind the scenes.
The two questions
- 1Describe a time you were praised, rewarded, or offered an opportunity mostly because of what someone else had done. How did you respond in the moment, and why?
- 2Tell us about a time you tried to close the gap between what you contributed and what you were given, or chose not to. What did that decision cost or gain you, and what did it teach you about yourself?
What raters look for
- Self-awareness
- Recognizes own biases, limits and emotions, and seeks and uses feedback.
- Ethics
- Weighs competing duties honestly, protects people from harm, and stays accountable to rules and values.
