Splitting the points

You are in a four-person group for a semester-long engineering design project.

The instructor asks each group to divide 100 contribution points among its members, and individual grades will be adjusted by those points. One teammate, Sofia, did most of the visible work, including the final presentation, but often dismissed other people's ideas. Another, Ahmed, quietly did the research and testing the design depended on but rarely spoke in meetings. The group must agree on a split by Friday.

The two questions

  1. 1How would you approach dividing the points?
  2. 2What is the fairest way to recognize different kinds of contribution on a team?

What raters look for

Collaboration
Works toward a shared goal, shares credit and load, and repairs friction inside a team.
Equity
Notices unequal access or treatment and acts fairly, especially for people with less power.
