Fill a bag for two dollars

You volunteer at a charity shop that raises money for a local hospice.

You are at the pricing table with two other volunteers ten minutes before opening, and the manager is away until Monday. Viktor has put a hand-lettered sign on the children's books: fill a bag for two dollars. The shop's guide prices them at a dollar each. Haruka, a longtime volunteer, has just heard about the sign.

The scene

Viktor: Those books sat for months. Now parents leave with a whole bag for bedtime.

Haruka: And the hospice gets two dollars where the guide says twenty.

Viktor: Twenty we never actually saw. Empty shelves bring in new donations, too.

Haruka: We open in ten minutes. Will you help me take that sign down and re-tag?

The two questions

  1. 1What would you do, and what would you say to Viktor and Haruka?
  2. 2Tell us about a time you disagreed with how a teammate was doing a shared job. How did you handle it?
