Rota or sign-up sheet?
You are a plot-holder helping organize the community garden's autumn cleanup, which is nine days away.
You are in the garden's shared tool shed with two fellow plot-holders, Nadir and Nazim. Nadir, 34, works weekdays and has only odd hours free. Nazim, 47, does most of the weekly upkeep. The cleanup needs both of them, and they have turned to you to settle how it will be organized.
The scene
Nazim: I do most upkeep here. A fixed rota would make it fair.
Nadir: My job gives me odd hours. I'd miss a fixed slot.
Nazim: A sign-up sheet means the same few people do everything again.
Nadir: Maybe so. You're organizing this, so how should we run the cleanup?
The two questions
- 1What would you do to organize the cleanup, and why?
- 2Tell us about a time you had to get a group to share work that was not evenly spread. What did you do?
What raters look for
- Collaboration
- Works toward a shared goal, shares credit and load, and repairs friction inside a team.
- Motivation
- Shows genuine, sustained drive and a clear reason for choices, including when work is unglamorous.
