Still can't center

You and a co-instructor teach the introductory course at a community ceramics club.

You teach the course with Phong. Cedric, 67, has loved every session but still cannot center clay on the wheel, which the follow-on course takes for granted. Beside the pottery wheels after the last session, he asks you both to let him go on with his classmates.

The scene

Cedric: That group is why I come. Let me go on too. I'll catch on.

Phong: The next course starts on the wheel. You'd be lost from day one.

Cedric: Repeat with strangers at my age? I'd rather just stop coming.

Phong: I don't want that either. But it's two teachers, two votes.

The two questions

  1. 1What would you say to Cedric and Phong?
  2. 2Describe a time you and a partner disagreed about what was best for someone you were both responsible for. How did you resolve it?

What raters look for
