Scene to read · Collaboration, Communication
Rewritten overnight
You are one of three editors of a campus newspaper.
The night before the issue goes to print, Hal rewrote Nora's front-page story without asking her. In the newspaper office, both of them turn to you, since you have the deciding vote.
The scene
Nora: You rewrote my whole story overnight and didn't even text me. That's my name on it.
Hal: It was confusing, and we print at noon. My version is simply clearer.
Nora: Clearer, maybe. But you cut the family's quotes.
Hal: You decide. Which one runs?
The two questions
- 1What would you do, and what would you say to Nora and Hal?
- 2Describe a time someone changed or took over work you cared about. How did you handle it?
What raters look for
- Collaboration
- Works toward a shared goal, shares credit and load, and repairs friction inside a team.
- Communication
- Listens first, speaks clearly and respectfully, and adapts the message to the listener.
