Scene to read · Collaboration, Ethics
One key to the shed
You are a member of both neighborhood groups, and both leaders have asked you to help settle who holds keys to the tool shed.
Outside a shared tool shed behind the community hall stand Mikhail, who leads the older neighborhood group, and Milos, who leads the newer one. The older group bought the tools and holds the only key. The newer group's events keep needing them, and both leaders have agreed to accept your recommendation.
The scene
Mikhail: We paid for every tool, Milos. One key keeps things accounted for.
Milos: Every event, we wait for you to open it. We're members too.
Mikhail: A borrowed rake returned broken last time. Nobody knew who'd used it.
Milos: Second key, or keep waiting? You're in both groups. What's your recommendation?
The two questions
- 1What would you recommend to Mikhail and Milos about access to the shed, and why?
- 2How do you decide when shared resources should be tightly controlled and when access should be opened up?
What raters look for
- Collaboration
- Works toward a shared goal, shares credit and load, and repairs friction inside a team.
- Ethics
- Weighs competing duties honestly, protects people from harm, and stays accountable to rules and values.
