Six bowls

You coordinate your woodturning guild's entry for a charity exhibition one month away.

Xiang and Hemi, the guild's two best turners, are making the set of six bowls together. The last two work nights ended in argument with nothing turned. In the lathe room tonight, the blanks are still sitting on the bench.

The scene

Xiang: A set means six bowls that match. Same walnut, same finish. Otherwise it's careless.

Hemi: Six matching bowls look like a catalog. People donate when something surprises them.

Xiang: I won't put my name on a jumble.

Hemi: And I won't copy yours six times. Coordinator, just pick. We're out of nights.

The two questions

  1. 1What would you do as coordinator, and what would you say to Xiang and Hemi?
  2. 2Describe a time you had to decide whether to keep seeking agreement or make the call yourself. What did you do?

What raters look for

Collaboration
