Three meetings without her

You help organize your community astronomy club's public stargazing nights.

Qing, the club's most knowledgeable member, often corrects and talks over others, and the planning group, including you and Farah, has quietly been meeting without her. In the storage room, beside the telescope cases, Qing has just found the planning sheet.

The scene

Qing: Three meetings, and nobody told me. I've run these nights for nine years. Why?

Farah: Honestly? We got more done in three meetings than all last year.

Qing: Because I point out mistakes? Someone has to. You could've just said so.

Farah: We tried, twice. I wasn't the only one who agreed to this.

The two questions

  1. 1What would you say to Qing and Farah?
  2. 2Describe a time a group you were in worked better without one of its members. What did you do about it?

What raters look for

Collaboration
Works toward a shared goal, shares credit and load, and repairs friction inside a team.
Empathy
Recognizes what others feel and need, and lets that shape the response without losing judgment.
