Seventy percent and climbing

You are a driver waiting for a charger in a public parking garage.

Only two of the garage's chargers work. One is held by a parked car whose owner is nowhere around. Since early afternoon, you and Niko, a stranger, have waited for the other, where Dalit's car has charged for hours. Dalit, who drives a long overnight delivery route for work, has just come back to her car.

The scene

Niko: That screen says seventy percent. I've waited since two, and I'm nearly empty.

Dalit: My overnight route has no chargers anywhere. Below ninety-five, I'm stranded halfway.

Niko: Seventy's a lot of range. I can't even get home on mine.

Dalit: Splitting time pushes everyone back, you included. You've been waiting too. What do you think?

The two questions

  1. 1What would you say to Niko and Dalit, and why?
  2. 2Describe a time you had to share something scarce with people you did not know. How did you work it out?

What raters look for

Collaboration
Works toward a shared goal, shares credit and load, and repairs friction inside a team.
Equity
Notices unequal access or treatment and acts fairly, especially for people with less power.
