Whose piece gets cut?
You are a contributor to a community zine collective, and your own piece is one of those that might be cut.
In a cramped meeting room, the zine is two pages over its print limit. Co-editors Fausto and Felician disagree about who makes the final cut, and the collective has no written rule. Both trust you, and your piece is among the candidates.
The scene
Fausto: Felician, I've edited this zine longer than anyone; the final cut should be mine.
Felician: Longer doesn't mean sole say. We're co-editors; the printer needs files by Friday.
Fausto: Then let's ask someone we both trust to suggest how we choose.
Felician: Fine by me, but remember, their own piece might be the one that goes.
The two questions
- 1What would you do in this situation, and why?
- 2Tell us about a time you had to help a group make a decision without clear rules. What did you do?
What raters look for
- Collaboration
- Works toward a shared goal, shares credit and load, and repairs friction inside a team.
- Motivation
- Shows genuine, sustained drive and a clear reason for choices, including when work is unglamorous.
