What the manual leaves out
You are a shop assistant at a small print shop, trusted by both the departing machine operator and the owner.
After closing in the back office, Amadeo, 29, the machine operator leaving in two weeks, meets with Amalia, 42, the owner, about the press handover. His adjustments compensate for maintenance Amalia postponed during a cash shortage. He'll document them but has privately asked you to omit that connection. The adjustments aren't safety bypasses, but no technician has confirmed how long they can substitute for repairs.
The scene
Amalia: I need a usable manual, but we can't fund every repair immediately.
Amadeo: I'll write the adjustments down, just leave out why they're needed, please.
Amalia: If repairs can wait, explain that; I need realistic costs and priorities.
Amadeo: I mostly go by feel; linking everything to postponed maintenance sounds accusatory.
The two questions
- 1What would you say to Amadeo and Amalia, and how would you help prepare an honest handover?
- 2Tell us about a time you had to share or pass on knowledge that someone was reluctant to give up. What happened?
What raters look for
- Communication
- Listens first, speaks clearly and respectfully, and adapts the message to the listener.
- Ethics
- Weighs competing duties honestly, protects people from harm, and stays accountable to rules and values.
