Scene to read · Empathy, Professionalism

Three weeks of shoes

You are the tenant representative for a small apartment building, and residents have asked you to enforce its two-week guest guideline.

On the second-floor hallway, Keziah has asked you to enforce the guideline against her neighbor Kieran. His sister's family has stayed three weeks while their own flat is repaired. Their shoes and bags line the hallway outside his one-bedroom flat. Kieran and Keziah are both here.

The scene

Keziah: I'm not against his family. But shoes and bags fill the hallway.

Kieran: Their flat is being repaired. Three weeks, and nowhere else nearby.

Keziah: Then the guideline needs a plan. Two weeks was the agreed rule.

Kieran: I'll clear the hallway today. Don't send them away. What'll you decide?

The two questions

  1. 1What would you do as tenant representative, and what would you say to Keziah and Kieran?
  2. 2Tell us about a time you had to apply a rule while understanding why someone needed an exception.
