The downtown posting
You are a guide at a city museum.
The summer schedule, posted beside the visitor desk, puts you downtown, a ten-minute walk from your home, and Quinn at the branch an hour away. Quinn has just asked you to trade. Another guide, Akira, is at the desk and listening.
The scene
Quinn: Daycare closes at six. From the branch, I can't make it.
Akira: Sorry, Quinn, but parents got first pick last summer too. We ate the commute.
Quinn: I'm not asking for first pick. I'm asking one person a favor.
Akira: And saying no makes them the villain. It's your posting. What do you want?
The two questions
- 1How would you answer Quinn and Akira?
- 2Should people with family responsibilities get priority when schedules are set? Why or why not?
What raters look for
- Equity
- Notices unequal access or treatment and acts fairly, especially for people with less power.
- Collaboration
- Works toward a shared goal, shares credit and load, and repairs friction inside a team.
