Friday at the trailhead

You founded a Friday-evening trail running club.

In the trailhead parking lot before tonight's run, your close friend Omar has stopped by to see you, and your co-organizer, Zuberi, is setting out the sign-in sheet. Members voted for Friday evenings last spring.

The scene

Omar: Friday evening is prayer and family for me. So I can never come.

Zuberi: I hate that, Omar. But thirty people voted for Fridays.

Omar: I know. I don't want trouble. I only wanted you to know.

Zuberi: Move it and we lose half of them. It's your club, though.

The two questions

  1. 1What would you do as the founder, and why?
  2. 2When should a group change what the majority chose for the sake of one person it leaves out?

What raters look for

Equity
Notices unequal access or treatment and acts fairly, especially for people with less power.
Collaboration
Works toward a shared goal, shares credit and load, and repairs friction inside a team.
