I'll sit this one out

You run partner rotation at your ballroom dance club's practice night. A moment ago Meena, a longtime member with a medal test on Saturday, imitated newer member Noemi's accent as Noemi counted the steps aloud. By the music player, away from the other dancers, who all heard it, the two of them come to you before the next song.
The scene
Meena: That was rude of me, Noemi. Nerves. But I lose the count, and my test's Saturday.
Noemi: It's fine. Skip us tonight. I'd honestly rather not dance it.
Meena: Just this week. After Saturday I'll dance with anyone you like.
Noemi: Please don't make it a thing. I only just started feeling welcome here.
The two questions
- 1What would you do, and what would you say to Meena and Noemi?
- 2When the person affected by an unkind remark asks you to let it go, should you?
What raters look for
- Equity
- Notices unequal access or treatment and acts fairly, especially for people with less power.
- Communication
- Listens first, speaks clearly and respectfully, and adapts the message to the listener.
