Personal question · Equity, Self-awareness

Whose voice carried the vote

In many teams, classes, families and clubs, decisions get made without anyone intending to favor certain people. Some voices simply end up counting for more. Think about a group you belonged to where this happened.

The two questions

  1. 1Describe a time you realized a group you were part of was making decisions in a way that gave some people's views less weight than others. What was happening, what part did you play, and what did you do or would you do differently?
  2. 2Tell us about a time you were one of the people whose view was given less weight, or one whose view carried more. How did that shape the way you take part in group decisions now?

What raters look for

Equity
Notices unequal access or treatment and acts fairly, especially for people with less power.
Self-awareness
Recognizes own biases, limits and emotions, and seeks and uses feedback.
