The fleet nobody sees
You are an apprentice at a bike repair workshop, and the shop has asked you to decide about taking over fleet tuning.
It is a slow weekday morning at the workshop. Anthea, a mechanic and your mentor, has just finished a custom repair. She is asking whether you will take over tuning the rental fleet, which is repetitive and mostly unnoticed. Aoife, a mechanic who has done it for years, is ready to hand it off.
The scene
Anthea: Aoife's ready to hand off the rental fleet. Would you take it on?
Aoife: It's the same twelve checks every day, but nothing here runs without it.
Anthea: It's a steady job, but the custom repairs would mostly go to others.
Aoife: We need an answer by next week. What would you like to do?
The two questions
- 1What would you decide, and what would you say to Anthea and Aoife?
- 2Describe a time you stayed committed to work that felt repetitive or unrecognized. What kept you going?
What raters look for
- Motivation
- Shows genuine, sustained drive and a clear reason for choices, including when work is unglamorous.
- Resilience
- Recovers from setbacks, manages stress constructively, and learns from failure.
