Scene to read · Motivation, Professionalism
Nobody pays for perfect
You are a designer at a small sign shop.
A banner for a family restaurant's reopening is due tomorrow at nine. The client approved your proof, and the shop forbids changes after sign-off, since an unrequested fix once forced a full reprint. You have now noticed that the name is hard to read from a distance, and the client is not answering the phone. At your workbench, Tim and Roz weigh in.
The scene
Tim: They signed the proof. We don't touch signed work. Remember the reprint we ate last year?
Roz: From across the street I can't read the name, though.
Tim: And if they hate the new version at nine tomorrow?
Roz: It's two hours, unpaid, and it's your design. What do you want to do?
The two questions
- 1What would you do, and why?
- 2Tell us about a time you put in effort that nobody asked for or would have noticed. Why did you do it?
What raters look for
- Motivation
- Shows genuine, sustained drive and a clear reason for choices, including when work is unglamorous.
- Professionalism
- Is reliable, respects boundaries and confidentiality, and holds a consistent standard under pressure.
