Written scenario · Motivation, Professionalism
Two days in ten minutes
You are a junior analyst at a regional furniture retailer.
You wrote a small script that builds the weekly stock report, about half your job, in ten minutes instead of two days. Nobody has noticed. Oluwaseyi, your manager, is fair but stretched, and the last colleague who got faster was simply handed a departing coworker's duties with no raise. If you tell him, all four analysts could use the script, and you would probably be given more to do for the same salary. If you say nothing, your reports stay accurate and punctual, and your afternoons are free. Your review is next month.
The two questions
- 1What would you do, and why?
- 2Describe a time you could have coasted but chose to push yourself, or chose not to. What drove your decision?
What raters look for
- Motivation
- Shows genuine, sustained drive and a clear reason for choices, including when work is unglamorous.
- Professionalism
- Is reliable, respects boundaries and confidentiality, and holds a consistent standard under pressure.
