Eggshell finish
You work at a hardware store.
Nadia, the shift manager who sets your hours, is training Mordechai, 47, who was hired last week, at the paint mixing counter where you are restocking. A customer has just walked away smiling after Nadia imitated the way Mordechai says "eggshell finish," the third time she has done it today.
The scene
Nadia: Eggshell! I love how you say it. Customers eat that up, Mordechai.
Mordechai: Yes. It is funny, I suppose. I will practice the word.
Nadia: Don't you dare, it's charming! Right? Tell him it's charming.
Mordechai: It is fine. Which base for this one, please?
The two questions
- 1What would you do, and what would you say in this moment?
- 2Describe a time you saw someone treated in a way they seemed uncomfortable with but did not object to. What did you do?
What raters look for
- Professionalism
- Is reliable, respects boundaries and confidentiality, and holds a consistent standard under pressure.
- Equity
- Notices unequal access or treatment and acts fairly, especially for people with less power.
