Scene to read · Professionalism, Self-awareness

What do you really think?

You are an architect at a small firm.

Avital, who is quick to praise your manager Chetan's ideas, was just named lead on the project you wanted. Her client plan promises a March handover, which you believe the permit schedule makes impossible and costly to miss. In the kitchenette, Chetan turns to you while Avital refills her coffee.

The scene

Chetan: You've been quiet. What do you really think of Avital's plan?

Avital: Chetan loved it. March handover, the client's thrilled. Right, Chetan?

Chetan: I did. But permits were your area on the last job. Any concerns?

Avital: If it's about March, I've padded the schedule. We're fine. Aren't we?

The two questions

  1. 1What would you say to Chetan and Avital, and why?
  2. 2Describe a time you had to give an honest opinion to someone who had power over you. How did you handle it?
