The band's here at eight

You are one of two assistant engineers at a small recording studio.

Weeks ago you promised to give the toast at your best friend's rehearsal dinner tonight. In the control room, an hour before a paying band arrives for a late session, the other assistant, Geeta, who was due to run it, and Zhen, who manages the studio but cannot work the board, turn to you.

The scene

Geeta: My mom's at the clinic. I have to go. Can you take tonight's session?

Zhen: The band drove four hours. No engineer, and I lose them for good.

Geeta: I know, your toast is at eight. I hate asking.

Zhen: The band's here at eight. I need an answer now.

The two questions

  1. 1What would you say to Geeta and Zhen, and what would you do tonight?
  2. 2Tell us about a time you had to choose between a promise to someone close to you and a responsibility at work or school.
