Before and after
You are a student member of the committee that advises your campus recreation center.
The center planned to cut its free fitness classes next year for lack of money. A cosmetic surgery clinic now offers to pay for all of them if its before-and-after photos run on the gym's screens. Bo-ra, another student member, says the photos would add to the pressure about appearance that students already feel, in the one place where many are most self-conscious. Other members say students are adults who see ads every day, and that the classes help hundreds of people who cannot afford a private gym. The committee asks for your recommendation.
The two questions
- 1What would you recommend, and why?
- 2When, if ever, should an organization turn down money because of where it comes from?
What raters look for
- Problem solving
- Gathers facts before acting, considers options and consequences, and chooses a workable next step.
- Ethics
- Weighs competing duties honestly, protects people from harm, and stays accountable to rules and values.
