The sign says Saturdays
You are a garden club member, asked by the committee to propose a way forward on the Saturday sign.
At the entrance shed of a community garden, Enid and Enoch, two longtime plot holders, disagree about the sign. It promises the garden is staffed and open every Saturday, but volunteers have dwindled and visitors have sometimes found the gate unattended. The committee has asked you to propose what to do.
The scene
Enid: That sign attracts newcomers. Changing it would make us look closed.
Enoch: Two Saturdays ago, visitors found a locked gate: promises we couldn't keep.
Enid: Then find volunteers; don't shrink our welcome because we've been tired.
Enoch: Tired is real. You've heard the proposal. What do you recommend?
The two questions
- 1What would you propose to the committee, and why?
- 2Tell us about a time you had to adjust a commitment you had made to others. How did you handle it?
What raters look for
- Problem solving
- Gathers facts before acting, considers options and consequences, and chooses a workable next step.
- Communication
- Listens first, speaks clearly and respectfully, and adapts the message to the listener.
