No phones all day
You are the student representative on your high school's policy committee.
The principal proposes banning phones for the entire school day, including lunch and breaks, with phones locked in pouches at the door. Many teachers and parents strongly support the idea. Others object, including parents who want to reach their children in an emergency and students who use their phones to manage part-time work schedules or health conditions. The committee asks for your recommendation.

The two questions
- 1What factors should the committee weigh before deciding?
- 2How would you make sure the final decision is accepted by the people who disagree with it?
What raters look for
- Problem solving
- Gathers facts before acting, considers options and consequences, and chooses a workable next step.
- Communication
- Listens first, speaks clearly and respectfully, and adapts the message to the listener.
