She just wants to go home

You are heading home late and standing on a subway platform.

It is after midnight and the platform is nearly empty. A few yards away, a man keeps stepping into a young woman's path and raising his voice, while she quietly repeats that she just wants to go home. You cannot tell whether they know each other. There is a help point on the wall, but staff could take several minutes to arrive, and the final train is due in four. Nobody else is close enough to notice.

The two questions

  1. 1What would you do, and why?
  2. 2How do you decide when a stranger's situation has become your business?
