She kept the password
You help run a model railway club.
Marta, the club's treasurer until March, left after a falling-out you only heard about secondhand. Nobody else has the online banking password, and the hall rent is due this week. In the storage room, beside the locked cash box and the boxed-up track, your fellow organizers Pauline and Girish disagree.
The scene
Pauline: Just call Marta and ask nicely. She built half these layouts.
Girish: She walked out with the password. I'd go to the bank with our minutes.
Pauline: The bank takes weeks. And we'd be treating her like a thief.
Girish: You weren't there in March. You're the only one not picking a side. So?
The two questions
- 1What would you suggest to Pauline and Girish, and why?
- 2How do you make a fair decision about someone when you have only heard other people's accounts of them?
What raters look for
- Problem solving
- Gathers facts before acting, considers options and consequences, and chooses a workable next step.
- Collaboration
- Works toward a shared goal, shares credit and load, and repairs friction inside a team.
