No label on the bottle

You are a member of an aquarium hobby club and hold the only key to its meeting room.

The building locks in ten minutes. The fish in the club's display tank have been sick all week, and the club president is on a flight and cannot be reached. Zahra is holding an unlabeled bottle over the tank when Imani, a longtime member, steps in.

The scene

Zahra: She left this out for them. Two are barely moving. They won't last till morning.

Imani: No label, no dose. The wrong thing could finish the whole tank.

Zahra: And waiting could too. We can't reach her for hours.

Imani: You've got the key. Do we dose it now or lock up?

The two questions

  1. 1What would you do, and why?
  2. 2How do you make a decision when acting and waiting both carry a risk you cannot measure?
