An equal split
You are the most senior of six people on a regional sales team.
Your team has won a $12,000 bonus for landing a large account. The manager wants the team to choose the split and asks you, as the most senior member, to send her the numbers. Everyone has assumed equal shares, and two teammates are already talking about what they will do with $2,000. You were on leave for half the project and did far less than Leilani, who ran the account day to day. She has said nothing. An equal split suits you, and reopening it would cost you money and could sour a happy moment.
The two questions
- 1What would you do, and why?
- 2Describe a time you received more or less credit than you felt you had earned. How did you respond?
What raters look for
- Collaboration
- Works toward a shared goal, shares credit and load, and repairs friction inside a team.
- Problem solving
- Gathers facts before acting, considers options and consequences, and chooses a workable next step.
