Just one bug

You are an engineer on a small software team with a client demo tomorrow at nine.

In the office's standup corner, Clifford, the developer, and Riley, the tester, are waiting for your manager. Tonight's release has one known bug: the export button fails on old browsers. If it does not ship, tomorrow's demo runs on last month's build. Both want your backing.

The scene

Clifford: One bug, on browsers the client doesn't use. Ship tonight, patch Thursday.

Riley: Last time, just one cost me a weekend of support calls. I'm not signing.

Clifford: Then we demo last month's build.

Riley: She's here in five. Whose side are you on?

The two questions

  1. 1What would you say to Clifford and Riley before the manager arrives?
  2. 2Tell us about a time you were caught between doing something well and doing it on time. What did you do?

What raters look for

Collaboration
