English on the line

You are a team lead on the packing line at a food plant.

Marisol and another packer often speak Tagalog to each other while they work. Curt, who has worked the line for twenty years, stops you and Marisol at the end of the line during a break.

The scene

Curt: They talk all shift and I can't follow a word. Maybe it's about me.

Marisol: We talk about our kids. It makes the shift feel like home.

Curt: It's a team. English on the line, that's all I ask.

Marisol: Is that a rule now? You're the lead.

The two questions

  1. 1How would you respond to Curt and Marisol?
  2. 2Tell us about a time you felt left out of a group, or realized someone else did. What did you learn?
