Personal question · Equity, Collaboration
Making room under a deadline
Groups often include people who approach tasks differently because of language, culture, ability or experience. Accommodating a different way of working can take extra time. Sometimes a deadline, a limited budget or a heavy workload makes that time hard to spare.
The two questions
- 1Describe a time you worked or studied with someone whose background or way of working differed from yours, and including their approach conflicted with time pressure. What did you decide, and why?
- 2Tell us about a time you had to decide how much time or effort a group should spend including someone's different approach. What did you weigh, and what would you do differently now?
What raters look for
- Equity
- Notices unequal access or treatment and acts fairly, especially for people with less power.
- Collaboration
- Works toward a shared goal, shares credit and load, and repairs friction inside a team.
