Who earns the weekend slots
You are a junior swim instructor, and Anika, your supervisor, has asked you to help decide who gets the weekend premium slots.
In the community pool's staff room, Anika, the lead instructor, and Anahi, a senior instructor, are filling in next month's whiteboard. Anahi teaches the popular weekend lessons that parents praise. Anika notes that Naveen, who isn't present, does the unseen equipment upkeep and cleaning. Two premium slots remain, and Anika wants your view.
The scene
Anika: Parents request you, Anahi, but Naveen handles equipment and cleaning unseen.
Anahi: Those requests drive renewals. Weekend slots should reward lessons families value.
Anika: Parents value lessons, but Naveen's upkeep makes them safe and possible.
Anahi: Maybe so. You wanted opinions; let's hear what our newest instructor thinks.
The two questions
- 1What would you say to Anika and Anahi about who should get the weekend premium slots, and why?
- 2Tell us about a time your effort went unnoticed, or you noticed someone else's unseen effort. What did you do, and what did you learn?
What raters look for
- Equity
- Notices unequal access or treatment and acts fairly, especially for people with less power.
- Resilience
- Recovers from setbacks, manages stress constructively, and learns from failure.
