Written scenario · Problem solving, Resilience
Four long days
You plan the weekly rota at a small landscaping company.
The owner, Putri, asks you to recommend whether the staff should switch from five eight-hour days to four ten-hour days. Three experienced workers have quit this year, and most of the others say a third day off is the one thing that would keep them. But several longtime clients, including the property managers who bring in a third of the revenue, expect service five days a week, and two older employees doubt they can work ten-hour days safely in summer heat. Putri wants your answer by Friday.
The two questions
- 1What would you recommend to Putri, and how would you test whether it is working?
- 2How do you decide how much a workplace should ask of its people in order to keep its promises to customers?
What raters look for
- Problem solving
- Gathers facts before acting, considers options and consequences, and chooses a workable next step.
- Resilience
- Recovers from setbacks, manages stress constructively, and learns from failure.
