The plan that didn't fit
A well-meant plan or rule can serve an important purpose yet fail to fit someone's circumstances. Adapting it may help that person while creating costs for others; following it unchanged may also have consequences.
The two questions
- 1Tell us about a time you had to find a workaround because a plan or rule didn't fit someone's real circumstances. What options did you weigh, and what did you decide?
- 2Describe a time during that same experience when the consequences of your decision became clear. What did it cost the person and others involved, and what would you do differently now?
What raters look for
- Problem solving
- Gathers facts before acting, considers options and consequences, and chooses a workable next step.
- Empathy
- Recognizes what others feel and need, and lets that shape the response without losing judgment.
