Written scenario · Problem solving, Empathy

The opening nobody wrote down

You are an employee at a small print and copy shop, and the owner has asked you to take over the opening routine.

Your coworker Dana, who always opened the shop, has gone on leave for several weeks. The owner has put you in charge of opening, but Dana never wrote her routine down. Regular customers expect things ready by a certain time, and a few have already complained about small gaps. You could rebuild the routine from complaints and guesswork, or contact Dana for details even though she is on leave.

The two questions

  1. 1What would you do to take over the opening routine, and why?
  2. 2How do you decide when it is reasonable to ask someone for help during their time off, and when it is better to manage without them?

What raters look for

Problem solving
Gathers facts before acting, considers options and consequences, and chooses a workable next step.
Empathy
Recognizes what others feel and need, and lets that shape the response without losing judgment.
