Triple the seeds

You volunteer at the free seed-sharing desk in your public library branch.

The branch manager has asked for your recommendation. A national garden-center chain has offered to fund and restock the program, which would triple the seeds available, mostly to low-income gardeners who rely on the desk. The condition is that only the chain's brand may be displayed there. That would push out the small local seed farm whose donated heirloom varieties started the program. Makena, your fellow volunteer, says more seeds for more families should settle it.

The two questions

  1. 1What would you recommend, and why?
  2. 2Describe a time you had to choose between a practical gain and something that mattered to you for other reasons. What did you decide?

What raters look for

Problem solving
Gathers facts before acting, considers options and consequences, and chooses a workable next step.
Equity
Notices unequal access or treatment and acts fairly, especially for people with less power.
