Pace PA Program Interview: Format, Dates and Who Gets In
Pace Pleasantville is still taking applications until March 1, 2027, while the Lenox Hill deadline has passed. Here is what each interview involves, how you get one and how offers are decided.
Pace has two PA programs with different interviews. Pleasantville is still taking applications: its CASPA e-submit deadline is March 1, 2027, and it fills seats on a rolling basis. It interviews on its campus with an individual interview, a group exercise and an essay, scored with rubrics, for a class of up to 40. The Pace-Lenox Hill Hospital program in New York City closed applications on September 1, 2026 and sends interview invitations after that date. It holds a personal interview for a class of up to 80 and does not publish its format.
Key facts (2027 entry)
- Next step
- Pleasantville: submit CASPA by March 1, 2027. Seats fill on a rolling basis, so earlier is better. Lenox Hill: the September 1, 2026 deadline has passed, and responses go out between September and December.

- Pleasantville in Westchester (up to 40 students) and Pace University-Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City (up to 80 students).
- Format at Pleasantville
- An individual interview, a group exercise and an essay, scored with rubrics. PAEA lists it as a traditional interview.

- Who interviews you (Pleasantville)
- The Program Director or the Medical Director, plus several program faculty.

- Pleasantville invites from about August of the year before entry, on a rolling basis. Lenox Hill sends invitations after its September 1, 2026 deadline, which has passed, and you pick a date first come, first served.
- Who is interviewed
- Applicants chosen after review. At both programs, meeting the minimums does not guarantee an interview.
- Tests
- No GRE at either program. PAEA lists no required standardized tests for either.
What happens on the interview day
The two Pace programs describe their interviews very differently. Check which program invited you before you prepare.
Pleasantville
Interviews take place on the Pace PA campus in Pleasantville, New York.
- Individual interview. With either the Program Director or the Medical Director, as well as several program faculty.
- Group exercise. You work on a task with other applicants. Pace does not publish what the task is.
- An essay. You write an essay on the day. Pace does not publish the topic or the time limit.
- Tour and students. A tour of the facilities, and time with current PA students, who are around all day to answer questions.
- Rubric scoring. Faculty score what they see with rubrics and use them to decide who is offered a seat.
Lenox Hill (New York City)
The admissions process has four parts: academic review, patient care experience, supporting documents and a personal interview.
- Format not published. Pace does not say how long the interview is, who runs it or whether it is online. PAEA lists a traditional interview and says an onsite interview is not required.
- Dates are fixed. Interview spots go first come, first served, and a date cannot be changed once you pick it.
Practice writing against a clock. Pleasantville does not publish its essay prompt, so practice writing a clear, one-page answer to an ethics or motivation question with a timer running.
How offers are decided
Both programs admit interviewed applicants who present the best overall profile in the areas they score. Decisions are made on a rolling basis.
- Three outcomes at Lenox Hill. Accepted, waitlisted or rejected, sent as soon as possible after your interview. Waitlist offers depend on seats opening before the July start and your place on the list.
- No deferrals at Lenox Hill. Accepted students cannot defer their seat.
- $1,500 seat deposit. Both programs list a non-refundable $1,500 deposit in the PAEA directory.

Academic preparation, interpersonal skills, professionalism, critical thinking, maturity, self-awareness, empathy, ethical reasoning, commitment to the profession and fit with the program's goals and mission.
How you get an interview
Both programs review applications as they come in, so applying early helps. Neither guarantees an interview to everyone who meets the minimums.
Pleasantville
Pleasantville uses a holistic review of academics, prior experience, service, goals and interpersonal skills, and adds points for applicants who fit its mission.
- GPA of 3.0 or more. Both cumulative and science. Higher GPAs and a master's degree get preference.
- 300 hours of direct patient care. Hands-on work, paid or volunteer. More hours get preference.
- 40 hours with a PA. Working with or shadowing a PA is required, on top of the 300 patient care hours unless those hours already included PA work.
- Three references. From professionals, with at least one from a PA or a physician (MD or DO).
- Prerequisites. No grade below B-, finished within seven years, with science courses taken in person. At most two can be in progress when you apply.
- Mission fit. Pace encourages Hudson Valley residents (a permanent address within 75 miles of the campus), veterans, first-generation students and groups underrepresented in the health professions. It seeks people who want to work with medically underserved populations and prefers leadership in school and community service.
Lenox Hill (New York City)
Lenox Hill gave priority to applications verified before its September 1, 2026 deadline. Pace says later applications are reviewed only if space is available.
- GPA of 3.0 or more. Both cumulative and science, using all college courses.
- 200 hours of direct patient care. Finished by the time you submit. Shadowing does not count.
- All prerequisites done. Graded when you submit, within the past 10 years, with no more than one grade below B-.
- Statement and references. A one-page personal statement and three professional references, one from a health professional.
- What gets preference. Higher overall and science GPAs, semesters with three or more science courses at once, prerequisites at a four-year school, higher first-attempt grades, a superior personal statement and favorable letters.
Dates and other details
The two programs run on different calendars and start at different times.
Dates for 2027 entry
- About August 2026. Pleasantville started inviting applicants to interview.
- September 1, 2026. Lenox Hill deadline, which has passed. Your CASPA had to be e-submitted with transcripts, payment and two of three letters received. Interview invitations go out after this date, and responses are sent between September and December.
- March 1, 2027. Pleasantville's CASPA e-submit deadline. It is still open, and seats fill on a rolling basis until the class is full.
- July 2027. Lenox Hill starts. The first two months are remote and full time, then classes move on campus in September.
- September 2027. Pleasantville starts, according to its PAEA entry.
- 2028 entry. Neither Pace program has posted dates for the next cycle. CASPA hasn't posted its 2027-28 opening date. PAEA says each cycle opens on the last Thursday in April.
The programs
Pleasantville is a 27-month primary care program with eight required clerkships and one elective. Its mission is to educate veterans and culturally diverse students, with an emphasis on primary care and service.
Lenox Hill is a 26-month, full-time program that leads to a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies. Its mission is to graduate PA leaders committed to professionalism and community engagement.
How to prepare
Prepare for the program that invited you, but the core skills are the same: clear stories, sound ethics and teamwork.
- Rehearse a group task. For Pleasantville, practice a short group problem with friends. Share ideas, invite quiet people in and help the group finish on time.
- Prepare for leadership and service. Pleasantville scores leadership and service orientation, so have one clear example of each.
- Know your PA shadowing. Be ready to describe what you saw a PA do and how it shaped your choice.
- Practice ethics out loud. Lenox Hill scores ethical reasoning, empathy and self-awareness. Talk through dilemmas from patient care, including what you would do differently.
Use the students. At Pleasantville, current students are around all day. Ask them about rotations and workload. It helps you decide and shows real interest.
Practice questions
Questions in the style of a Interview + group + essay station, written for applicants to Pace University, Physician Assistant Programs (Pleasantville and Lenox Hill NYC). They are practice questions, not the school's own. Open one for what a strong answer does.
In this group task, your group must decide whether a limited community health grant goes to a childhood vaccination program or to a diabetes management clinic for older adults. You have ten minutes to reach a unanimous decision. How would you approach it?
Lay out the trade-offs, listen to each person, and help the group reach one decision in time.
Tell me about a time you witnessed or were part of an ethical dilemma during your healthcare experience. What made it difficult, and how was it resolved?
Name the values in conflict, explain your part honestly, and say what you learned.
During a busy shift, your supervising physician sharply criticizes your suturing technique in front of a conscious patient. How do you handle the moment, and what do you do afterward?
Stay calm for the patient, then ask for specific feedback in private and show you can learn from it.
You are a PA, and after you introduce yourself, a new patient says, 'Oh, so you're the one who just takes the blood pressure and gets the doctor?' How would you explain what you actually do in a way that builds their confidence?
Explain the PA role in plain words, without sounding defensive, and focus on the patient's care.
Think back to a time in your patient care experience that showed you that you wanted to be a PA rather than a physician. Tell me about that moment.
Use one concrete moment and link it to what the PA role offers you.
You are a PA student on a geriatrics rotation. An elderly patient says 'Thank you, doctor' every time you do something. You've corrected them twice, and they wave it off and say, 'Same thing.' What do you do now?
Stay kind and patient, but find a simple, respectful way to make sure the patient knows who is caring for them.
