Quinnipiac PA Program Interview: Format, Casper and Dates

What happens at the Quinnipiac PA program interview, how you get one, and how it decides your offer.

Quinnipiac invites its top CASPA applicants to on-campus interviews and activities with program faculty, alumni and community partners, typically from August to November. Its PAEA entry lists panel, group and MMI interview types. Offers go to those with the best overall application and interview performance until the class of 54 is full, with about half the seats kept for its own ELMPA students.

What happens on the interview day

Quinnipiac describes the day as on-campus interviews and activities. It does not publish a schedule.

  • On campus. Interviews are held in person, and PAEA lists an onsite interview as required.
  • Faculty, alumni and partners. You meet program faculty, alumni and community partners.
  • Panel, group and MMI. These are the interview types Quinnipiac lists in PAEA. It does not publish how many stations there are or how long each part takes.
  • An assigned date. If invited, you are given a specific date, usually at least 2 weeks ahead.
  • Same format for ELMPA. Quinnipiac's own ELMPA students do interviews of the same format, though for them the result is practice and does not affect admission.

Be ready to switch modes. A panel, a group task and short stations each need a different style. Practice all three so none of them surprises you.

How offers are decided

Applicants with the highest overall performance on the application and interviews are offered admission until the class of 54 is full.

  • Early decisions. Some applicants hear as early as August, after the first round of interviews.
  • Final round. After the last interviews in October or November, the remaining spots go to the top candidates.
  • $1,000 deposit. Non-refundable, to secure your seat.
  • Waitlist. Other top candidates go on a waitlist. Quinnipiac does not publish your position on it.
  • ELMPA seats. About half the 54 seats go to Quinnipiac's ELMPA graduates, who have a guaranteed seat once they complete that program.

How you get an interview

Applicants who do not meet the minimums are not considered. Quinnipiac then reviews the rest holistically and invites the most qualified.

  • GPA of 3.20 or more. Overall, science and prerequisite GPA, each at least 3.20.
  • 2,000 patient care hours. Paid or volunteer, if it is hands-on. Volunteer EMT counts. Observation-only volunteering does not, and scribe roles count only if most of the work is hands-on.
  • Casper. The Acuity Insights situational judgment test, done before September 1. You can submit CASPA first.
  • 3 to 5 references. Your file is not reviewed until at least three are in. Ideally, two come from healthcare professionals who know your work with patients.
  • Supplemental essay. Required, with details given when you apply through CASPA.
  • Prerequisites. All done before September 1 of the application year, each with a C or better.

What reviewers weigh

Quinnipiac lists GPAs and course grades, academic load, sports and work, academic grit, patient care hours, PA shadowing, community service, leadership, your essays, references, Casper performance, professional memberships and published research.

Connecticut residents get no preference. The program does not accept graduates of medical school programs.

Dates and other details

Quinnipiac admits on a rolling basis, so early applicants can interview and hear back before the deadline.

Dates for 2027 entry

  • August to November 2026. On-campus interviews, with first decisions as early as August.
  • September 1, 2026. Deadline for a complete CASPA application, Casper and all prerequisites. CASPA takes about 3 weeks to verify, so send documents early.
  • October or November 2026. The last round of interviews, then remaining offers.
  • May 2027. The program starts, according to its PAEA entry.

The program

The program starts with four semesters of classes, with one day a week paired with a clinician in the first year. Then come 7 core and 2 elective rotations, mostly in Connecticut within 60 miles of the North Haven campus.

Its mission is to increase access to quality health care, with a focus on clinical competence, professionalism, leadership, community outreach and cultural humility.

How to prepare

Quinnipiac weighs your Casper score and your interviews, so practice judgment questions in writing and out loud.

  • Prepare for Casper early. Test dates are limited. Book one well before September 1 and practice answering short scenarios quickly and clearly.
  • Know your 2,000 hours. Be ready to describe what you did with your own hands, and what it taught you about patients.
  • Show leadership and service. Quinnipiac weighs leadership and community service. Have one clear story for each.
  • Practice with a panel. Ask two or three people to question you together. Look at the person who asked, then include the others as you answer.

In group tasks, help the group finish. Share ideas, invite quiet members in and keep an eye on time. Interviewers notice how you work with others, not just what you say.

Practice questions

Questions in the style of a Interviews + activities (in person) station, written for applicants to Quinnipiac University, MHS Physician Assistant Program. They are practice questions, not the school's own. Open one for what a strong answer does.

In this group task, your group reads a short scenario: a clinic forgot to call a patient about an abnormal lab result, and the patient only found out two weeks later at a follow-up visit. You have ten minutes to draft a joint apology to the patient, and everyone must contribute. How would you approach it?

Make sure every voice is heard, keep the apology honest and simple, and finish on time.

You are a PA, and a patient refuses to let you do their intake, saying they only want to see 'a real doctor.' The physician won't be available for another hour, and the patient's vital signs are borderline unstable. How do you handle this?

Respect the patient's wish, explain your role calmly, and make sure the unstable vitals are not ignored.

Tell me about a time you witnessed or were part of an ethical dilemma during your healthcare experience. What made it difficult, and how was it resolved?

Name the values in conflict, explain your part honestly, and say what you learned.

Think back to a time in your patient care experience that showed you that you wanted to be a PA rather than a physician. Tell me about that moment.

Use one concrete moment from your hands-on work and link it to what the PA role offers you.

Suppose a law passed tomorrow giving every PA nationwide full independent practice, removing any required collaboration with physicians. Would you still want to be a PA? Why or why not?

Take a clear position, show you value teamwork, and explain your reasoning calmly.

You're a PA in a primary care clinic, and a patient's symptoms are unusual and outside your experience. Your collaborating physician is out sick today. What are your next steps?

Keep the patient safe, know your limits, and name the people and resources you would call on.
