How you get an interview

- Apply early. Admission is rolling, so applicants who complete their applications first are considered for early interviews and decisions.

Shadowing helps you, not your hours. Yale encourages shadowing a PA to learn the role, but it does not count as patient care experience.

Practice questions
Questions in the style of a Interview (online) station, written for applicants to Yale Physician Associate Program, Yale School of Medicine. They are practice questions, not the school's own. Open one for what a strong answer does.
You are a PA, and a new patient says, 'Oh, so you're the one who just takes the blood pressure and gets the doctor?' How would you explain what you actually do?
Stay warm, describe what you do in plain words, and explain how you work with physicians without sounding defensive.
Why is it important for a PA to know the limits of their medical knowledge, and how will you recognize when you've reached your own?
Give a real moment when you asked for help, and name the signals that tell you to stop and check.
Think back to a time in your patient care experience that showed you that you wanted to be a PA rather than a physician. Tell me about that moment.
Tell one specific story and link it to what the PA role offers, not to what medicine lacks.
Tell me about a time you witnessed or were part of an ethical dilemma during your healthcare experience. What made it difficult, and how was it resolved?
Name the values in conflict, say what you did or would do, and reflect on what you learned.
Your supervising physician suggests a treatment plan that doesn't match current clinical guidelines you've just studied, though it isn't dangerous. How would you approach that difference?
Ask questions before you challenge, stay respectful, and keep the patient's interest at the center.
Ten years after you graduate, where do you hope to be leading, in your clinic, your community or the PA profession?
Be concrete and modest: one realistic leadership goal and a first step you have already taken toward it.
