What happens on the interview day

The whole day is virtual. Touro says it interviews on Zoom to widen access and keep costs down for applicants.

  • Two PA faculty. You interview with two members of the PA faculty. PAEA lists the interview type as traditional and panel.
  • A program presentation. The day includes a presentation about the program and may include other short presentations.
  • No other options. In-person and phone interviews are not available.

Know how PAs and physicians work together. Touro requires a letter from a PA so it knows you understand that working relationship. Expect the faculty to probe it too.

How offers are decided

A committee of PA faculty decides after each interview day. Touro says the program does not favor special groups.

  • Three outcomes. Accept, waitlist or deny.
  • Two to three weeks. Decisions are emailed in that window. If you hear nothing after three weeks, contact the Office of Admissions.
  • A $1,000 deposit. Non-refundable and usually due within two weeks of acceptance. It is credited toward tuition.

How you get an interview

The committee only reviews CASPA-verified applications with all transcripts, letters and the Patient Contact Form. A complete application does not guarantee an interview.

  • What they read. Your personal statement, the strength of your letters, your health care experience, any PA shadowing, and your leadership.
  • 200 hours of patient contact. Paid or volunteer, documented on the Patient Contact Form inside CASPA.
  • GPA of 3.0 or more. Both cumulative and science (biology, chemistry and physics).
  • Three letters, one from a PA. A letter from a nurse, NP or paramedic can't replace the PA letter. CASPA won't verify you until at least two letters arrive.
  • A $25 supplemental fee. Paid through the CASPA application.
  • Shadowing helps. PA shadowing is recommended but not required.

If you miss a requirement

You can petition the PA Admissions Committee in writing, with your application, to explain extenuating circumstances. A petition does not guarantee you will move forward.

Dates and other details

Touro reviews on a rolling basis, so applying well before the deadline gives you the best chance.

Dates for 2027 entry

  • Early October 2026. About 60 days before the deadline, when Touro recommends having all materials in.
  • December 1, 2026. Deadline. Your CASPA must be verified with all materials.
  • January 2027. The program starts.

The program

A full-time, lock-step, 28-month MS: three semesters of classes, three of clinical rotations, then a final semester with a capstone project. It holds Accreditation-Provisional status from the ARC-PA.

Other Touro PA campuses

Touro also runs PA programs in Manhattan, Long Island and Middletown, New York, and in Nevada, each with its own process. Each Touro location you apply to needs its own supplemental documents and fee.

How to prepare

With two faculty on a video call, your answers carry the interview. Practice speaking clearly to a camera.

  • Test your setup. Check your camera, sound, lighting and internet a day early, and have a backup plan if your connection drops.
  • Explain the PA role. Touro decides partly on your understanding of the PA profession. Be ready to say what a PA does and how PAs work with physicians.
  • Bring your shadowing. If you shadowed a PA, have one moment ready that shows what you learned about the job.
  • Show leadership. Leadership is one of the factors Touro weighs. Have a clear example where you took charge or improved something.

Use the presentation. Listen during the program presentation and ask one thoughtful question that shows you know Touro's 28-month structure.

Practice questions

Questions in the style of a Faculty interview (Zoom) station, written for applicants to Touro University California, Los Angeles PA Program. They are practice questions, not the school's own. Open one for what a strong answer does.

Suppose a law passed tomorrow giving every PA nationwide full independent practice, removing any required collaboration with physicians. Would you still want to be a PA? Why or why not?

Explain what you value about team-based care, not just what the law allows.

You are a PA. After you introduce yourself, a new patient says, 'Oh, so you're the one who just takes the blood pressure and gets the doctor?' How would you explain what you actually do in a way that builds their confidence?

Describe your role warmly and accurately, without sounding defensive.

Both NPs and PAs play vital roles in expanding access to care. What is it about the medical model of PA education, as opposed to the nursing model, that fits the way you learn?

Show you know the real difference, then link it to how you actually learn.

Think back to a time in your patient care experience that showed you that you wanted to be a PA rather than a physician. Tell me about that moment.

Pick one specific moment and say what it taught you about the PA role.

You're a PA in a primary care clinic, and a patient's symptoms are unusual and outside your experience. Your collaborating physician is out sick today. What are your next steps?

Put patient safety first and name who else you would consult.

You're a PA in a busy clinic, and you notice the medical assistants consistently take longer to room patients for you than for the other PAs, so your schedule keeps backing up. How do you address this?

Get curious about the cause before assuming anything, and talk to the team directly.
