Casper started in medical admissions, but Acuity Insights now lists programs in dozens of fields. This guide shows which non-MD programs appear on Acuity's 2026-27 list, using the Dates and Fees page as it stood on October 6, 2026, plus a few programs we checked on their own admissions pages. Whether you actually need Casper still depends on the program and the cycle, so check the program's page. For medical schools, see which medical schools require Casper.

How Acuity splits the tests

In the US, programs outside medicine use one of two Casper types: United States Casper 1 (CSP-10100) and United States Casper 2 (CSP-20100). Medicine uses its own Medicine test (CSP-10111) and residency has a separate Graduate Medical Education type (CSP-20101). A score is valid only for the type you took, so a PA applicant and a dental applicant take the same Casper 2 test, while an MD applicant takes a different one. The "listings" count is the number of program entries on the page that day, not the number of universities. Names are examples from the list.

Smaller groups on the same page include dental residency programs, counselling, anesthesiologist assistant programs, and a few radiography, sonography, respiratory care and physical or occupational therapist assistant programs at Amarillo College. Acuity lists Drexel's BA/BS+MD program under Casper 1.

Programs we checked on their own pages

A program can show up on Acuity's list and still treat Casper differently, for example by asking only interviewees to take it. We read these pages on October 6, 2026:

University of Wisconsin-Madison Physician Assistant Program says all applicants must complete United States Casper 2 each admissions cycle (admission requirements).
University of Utah School of Dentistry says it requires United States Casper 2 in the 2026-2027 cycle (Casper page).
East Carolina University Physical Therapy says all applicants complete Casper as part of the application and lists September 16, 2026 as the last scheduled test date (prospective students).
Wayne State University DPT requires Casper only of students selected to interview (DPT admissions).
Cal State Fullerton School of Nursing requires Casper of all applicants for Fall 2027 admission, and tells applicants to register under "Nursing - Undergraduate" (accelerated BSN requirements).
Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine requires Casper for the Fall 2027 cycle, says neither Snapshot nor Duet is required, and lists August 25, 2026 as the last day to complete it, so its 2026-27 window has closed (deadlines, TMDSAS). Programs that say Casper is "required" may mean at application, at the secondary stage or at interview. Use the program's wording, not ours.

One warning: some program pages we read still describe older versions of the test, such as "12 sections" or a 2021 test date. Acuity's current format is 11 scenarios (4 video, 7 typed); see the Casper guide.

Residency programs

For 2026-27, the US Graduate Medical Education entries for anesthesiology, internal medicine, interventional radiology, OB/GYN, surgery and urology showed no participating programs when we checked, and the only US residency entries listed were a small number of dental residencies (for example the University of Puerto Rico oral and maxillofacial surgery program and several Austin Institute of Dental Medicine residencies). Acuity's help centre also describes a Canadian postgraduate medical education Casper that is sent to CaRMS (how results reach CaRMS). If your specialty program says it uses Casper, take its wording over a third-party list. Our residency interview guide covers the interview itself.

Outside the US

The same Dates and Fees page lists programs in other countries. These are only what Acuity lists; check the program for its own rules.

Canada: a large list, across Casper 1 (English, CSP-10200) and Casper 2 (CSP-10211). Casper 2 includes medicine (for example McMaster, Queen's, Dalhousie, Manitoba and Saskatchewan), pharmacy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, dentistry, veterinary medicine, speech-language pathology, physician assistant and a long run of allied health programs. Casper 1 includes undergraduate nursing, dental hygiene and midwifery programs. Acuity says for Canadian programs you must usually take the test in the language of the program, and the language cannot be changed once selected.
United Kingdom: dental hygiene and therapy programmes (for example King's College London, Leeds, Manchester and Sheffield). No UK medical schools appeared in our pass through the list.
Australia: programs in medicine (Curtin, Notre Dame, Wollongong), veterinary science, physiotherapy, dentistry, psychology, speech pathology, audiology and teacher education. Acuity says teacher education applicants take a shorter test of 8 scenarios.
Ireland and Bahrain: Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (medicine and dentistry in Dublin, medicine in Bahrain).
New Zealand: teacher education programs and Massey University's veterinary science.

Cycles and test dates differ by country. Australia's cycle usually starts in July and ends the following June, according to Acuity.

How to prepare if you are not applying to medicine

The test is the same format whatever the program: video scenarios first, then typed. Scenarios are everyday situations and not tied to your field, so you don't need clinical knowledge. Practice the format, not your specialty. Our typing speed guide and video response guide cover the two sections.

FAQ

Do PA programs require Casper?

Many do. Acuity's list had 43 PA program listings for 2026-27, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison says all applicants complete Casper 2. Check each program, as policies differ.

Is Casper required for nursing school?

Only for some programs. Acuity lists 12 undergraduate nursing and 12 graduate nursing and nurse anesthesia listings in the US, including Cal State Fullerton, which requires it of all applicants for Fall 2027.

Do pharmacy schools require Casper?

Few in the US. Acuity's 2026-27 US list had one pharmacy school, the University of Mississippi. Several Canadian pharmacy programs are listed.

Do dental schools use Casper?

Some do. Acuity's list had 8 US dental school listings, including the University of Utah, which requires Casper 2 for 2026-27.

Do vet schools require Casper?

Some do. Texas A&M requires it; its 2026-27 window ended August 25, 2026.

Is Casper used for residency?

Not for US residency programs on Acuity's 2026-27 list apart from a few dental residencies, as of October 6, 2026.
