Preparing for the Methodist Cape Fear Valley SOM interview
Methodist Cape Fear Valley's station-based interview, mostly on Zoom: 2026-27 dates, MCAT and GPA minimums, its southeastern N.C. mission, practice stations.

The Methodist University Cape Fear Valley Health School of Medicine interview format
The Methodist University Cape Fear Valley Health School of Medicine (MU CFVH, Fayetteville, North Carolina) uses a station-based interview. The AAMC's MSAR report for the 2027 class says "candidates rotate between interview stations and are assessed on a variety of competencies," that interviews are mostly "conducted virtually via Zoom," and that "a select number of in-person interviews will be available for the 2027 cycle." The school's requirements page says only "Complete an interview. Interviews are by invitation only."

What MU CFVH looks for
The school's mission, on its welcome page, is "to prepare our graduates to be socially accountable, community-engaged, evidence-based, compassionate, equity-focused physician leaders who will contribute to the mitigating health disparities and improving health outcomes in southeastern North Carolina or wherever they may practice." The Founding Dean writes that students "will participate in health care throughout our eight-county region from their first year," that health systems science and population health will be taught alongside foundational and clinical sciences, and that every graduate should "put service to society first."
The school calls itself "N.C.'s Newest Medical School" and lists a Class of 2030 of 64 students and eight hospitals as clinical partners. Those are the specific facts to mention when you explain why this school.
How to prepare for MU CFVH's interview
- Practice rotating stations. Because the format is stations that assess "a variety of competencies," practice short, varied prompts back to back, and reset between them.
- Know the mission words. Socially accountable, community-engaged, evidence-based, compassionate, equity-focused. Pick a real example for each.
- Know southeastern North Carolina. Be ready to talk about health disparities in a region you have lived in, worked in, or studied.
- Be ready for a new school. Say honestly what draws you to a school that is still building its traditions, and what you would contribute.
- Prepare for evidence-based thinking. Practice weighing a claim or a study out loud, not just describing a feeling.
- Confirm Zoom or in person. Check your invitation, then test your setup or plan travel.
MU CFVH practice questions (written by us, not MU CFVH)
MU CFVH doesn't publish its stations. These are ours, shaped around the mission words the school uses. Practice each aloud with a timer.
- Why Methodist University Cape Fear Valley, and why southeastern North Carolina?
- What does "socially accountable" mean to you? Give me an example from your own life.
- Station: a community clinic has funding for one new program. Mental health, diabetes prevention or transportation. How do you decide?
- Describe a time you used evidence to change your mind.
- Tell me about a time you worked on a team to serve a community. What was your role?
- A patient does not trust the health system because of past experiences. How do you earn their trust?
- Describe a time you advocated for equity when it was uncomfortable.
- Station: you are on a team with someone who talks over everyone. What do you do?
- What would you want to learn from the eight-county region where students train from the first year?
- What is one thing in your application you would like to talk about more, and why?

A drill for the MU CFVH interview
- Pick four prompts: one on the mission words, one on community, one on evidence and one timed station you have never seen.
- Answer each in two minutes on camera, in the setup you'll use on interview day.
- Watch it with the sound off. Are you looking at the lens and nodding when you listen?
- Have a partner give two follow-ups per answer: "Where did you make a decision?" and "What would you do differently?"
- Rewrite each story as three bullets and repeat it two days later, without reading.
If you don't have a practice partner, Confetto's AI mock interviews ask follow-up questions based on what you actually said and give rubric-based feedback afterward. The question bank has over 500 questions, and you can start with a 7-day free trial.
