Kent and Medway Medical School MMI: 7-minute stations plus a group station, a non-disclosure agreement, UCAT thresholds, December timing, plus questions.

Kent and Medway Medical School MBBS interview guide: multi-station mini interviews, group station and practice questions

The Kent and Medway Medical School interview format

Kent and Medway Medical School (KMMS) uses multi-station mini interviews (MMIs), and its 2027 entry requirements page describes them as considerably different from the majority of UK medical schools. Previous MMIs comprised six short stations labelled data handling, problem analysis, situational judgement, roleplay, task and values-based, each 7 minutes with 3-minute intervals, followed by a 40-minute group station in which applicants were individually assessed. These ran in person in all years except 2021. International applicants have had remote interviews with 3 short stations and a group station.

KMMS says it does not commit to the same number or type of stations for 2026 entry, although it will likely keep the same time formats. All applicants invited to MMIs must sign a non-disclosure agreement, and KMMS says disclosing station content will likely disadvantage the person who discloses it. Dates: the 2027 entry page still lists 11 to 16 December 2025 for home applicants, so treat dates as unconfirmed, and the study page says the first round of interviews is held in December.

Why KMMS says generic prep may not help

KMMS says its MMIs are considerably different from most UK schools, so interview preparation courses may be less useful, and that previous applicants have commented that some such courses were positively disadvantageous for the KMMS process. It does not recommend any particular preparation, and instead advises being alert, organised and in good form to show the true version of yourself. That makes practice most useful for building habits like listening, structure and honest reflection rather than memorised answers.

How KMMS selects for interview

KMMS divides applicants into five groups with different procedures. For pre-A-level and post-A-level applicants from England it contextualises GCSE and A level results against the average of the applicant's school. It operated a UCAT threshold of a total of 1850 or above (the 47th centile) and an SJT band of 3 or above in 2025-26, and does not commit to the same threshold for 2027. Because there is a stage 2b after the UCAT selection, high UCAT scorers will not necessarily be selected over lower scorers who pass the threshold.

What the station labels suggest

Data handling and problem analysis point to reasoning from information. Situational judgement and values-based stations point to professional behaviour and NHS values. A roleplay tests communication with an actor, and a task and group station test how you work with others when assessed individually. Prepare to collaborate without dominating, and to show your own thinking even when the group is moving fast.

How to prepare for the KMMS interview

  • Practise a group task. Do a 40-minute group exercise with friends, and have an observer note whether you listened, contributed and included others.
  • Practise data handling. Read a short table or chart and state the key point and one caveat in a minute.
  • Avoid rote answers. KMMS warns about preparation courses, so rehearse structure and listening instead.
  • Learn the SJT values. Situational judgement and values-based stations reflect professional behaviour, so revisit what UCAT SJT questions reward.
  • Read the NDA carefully. You will sign it, and sharing station content afterwards could hurt others and you.

KMMS practice questions (written by us, not Kent and Medway Medical School)

KMMS does not publish its stations. We wrote these around the station labels in its page. Treat them as seven-minute practice answers, except the group task.

  1. You are given a table showing waiting times for three clinics. What is the main finding, and what would you want to know next?
  2. A colleague asks you to say you checked a patient's medication when you did not. What do you do?
  3. Role-play: a patient is anxious about an operation and keeps changing their mind. How do you help?
  4. A group of four is asked to plan a health campaign for local teenagers in 30 minutes. How would you contribute?
  5. Describe a situation where you changed your mind about a value or decision.
  6. What would you do if you saw a student cheat in an exam?
  7. How should limited NHS appointments be shared between urgent and routine needs?
  8. A friend asks you to keep a secret that might affect their health. What do you do?
  9. What does professional behaviour mean outside the hospital?
  10. Why Kent and Medway, and what do you want from a newer medical school?

A drill for MMI plus a group station

  1. Run six 7-minute stations with 3-minute intervals, then a group task of 40 minutes with three friends.
  2. Give each person in the group a hidden goal such as keeping the group on time or encouraging quieter members, and review afterwards.
  3. Do two data handling questions with a one-minute summary.
  4. Practise a values-based scenario and say which value guided your decision.
  5. Write down what you noticed about your own behaviour in the group.
