Checked October 2026 against TMU: Admissions important dates, TMU: Selection process and TMU: MD admissions FAQ. Confirm details in your invitation.
Every TMU MD applicant starts with a Kira Talent assessment: 6 timed questions, some recorded on video and some typed. TMU emails the registration link on November 12, 2026, and you complete it between November 19 and 22, 2026. A shortlist from that step goes to file review. Invited applicants then do a virtual six-station MMI on February 27, February 28, March 6 or March 7, 2027.
The TMU Kira assessment: format and dates
Toronto Metropolitan University's School of Medicine, in Brampton, admits its MD class in stages. The first one is an online asynchronous assessment hosted by Kira Talent, and TMU invites every applicant to it. There is no live interviewer.
- Who does it: all applicants for the 2027 admissions cycle.
- Format: 6 timed questions, both video and written.
- Invite: an email on November 12, 2026 asks you to register.
- Window: November 19 to 22, 2026 (Thursday to Sunday), on the Kira Talent platform.
- Where: anywhere. TMU says the platform can be reached from any country.
- What it decides: TMU builds its shortlist from this assessment, and the shortlist goes to a full file review.
TMU doesn't publish the prep or response time for each question. It says the details come in your invitation. Kira's own help center explains how the two question types work:
- A video question plays a pre-recorded clip once. The question text stays on screen while you prepare and while you record.
- A written question shows only text. There is no prep time, but the response time is often longer.
- If the school turned on a Practice step, it shows on your Check-In page. During practice you can redo questions, but Kira warns the practice questions may not match the real ones.
Our Kira Talent guide covers the platform, the tech checklist and a timing plan in more detail.
The TMU MMI: six virtual stations
Shortlisted applicants who pass file review are invited to interview. Applicants in the General Admissions Stream, the Black Admissions Pathway and the Equity-Deserving Admissions Pathway do a virtual multiple mini interview.
- Stations: six short, timed, synchronous stations, so each one happens live.
- What it measures: non-academic attributes such as empathy and communication. TMU says the MMI does not test core knowledge.
- Dates: February 27, February 28, March 6 and March 7, 2027 (two weekends).
- Booking: invitations go out the week of February 16, 2027, and you must book a slot by 11:59 p.m. ET on February 21.
- Indigenous Admissions Pathway: applicants take part in a virtual Talking Circle instead of the MMI.
TMU doesn't publish station length or reading time. For a general picture of how stations run, see our MMI guide with practice questions, and use the free MMI timer to rehearse under a clock.

How TMU picks who moves on
TMU describes four steps: the Kira assessment, a comprehensive file review for the shortlist, the MMI or Talking Circle, and a final ranking. The ranking is a composite score that takes all the rounds into account. There are 94 seats in the 2027 cycle.
- A minimum OMSAS GPA of 3.5 is required for the 2027 cycle.
- TMU does not require the MCAT or Casper.
- You apply to one stream or pathway only: General, Black, Indigenous or Equity-Deserving.
- Most seats are reserved for applicants who are ordinarily resident in Ontario.
Because the Kira step decides the shortlist, it carries real weight. Treat it like an interview, not a form.

How to prepare for the Kira step (our plan, not TMU's)
This plan is ours. It assumes 30 seconds to think and 60 to 90 seconds to answer for video, which TMU hasn't confirmed, so switch to the timings in your invitation as soon as you see them.
- This week: list six stories from your own life: a team that struggled, a mistake you owned, a time your values clashed with a rule, a hard conversation, a community you served, and why medicine. Most Kira prompts can be answered with one of them.
- Before November 12: record yourself on your laptop camera, one take only, on three prompts a day. Watch them back once and note where you rambled.
- Written answers: type with a timer and no prep time. Lead with your answer in the first sentence, then one example.
- When the invite lands: register right away, do the Practice step if TMU offers it, and test your camera, microphone and browser.
- November 19 to 22: do the real assessment early in the window, in one sitting, in a quiet room, so a technical problem still leaves time to contact Kira.
For timed practice that feels like Kira, Confetto's one-way video interview practice gives you a question, a short think time and one recorded take, then feedback on each answer.
TMU interview questions to practice
TMU doesn't release its questions. We picked these to match the attributes TMU names for its assessment and MMI. They're for practice and don't predict what you'll be asked.
Kira-style video prompts:
- Tell me about a time you worked on a team that wasn't working well. What did you do?Practice a question like this
- Tell me about a time your values conflicted with a rule or policy. What did you do?Practice a question like this
- Tell me about a time you had to earn back someone's trust after a mistake.Practice a question like this
- What is the most significant challenge you have overcome, and how has it prepared you for a career in medicine?Practice a question like this
Kira-style written prompt:
- What kind of community do you want to practice in, and what have you done to prepare for it?Practice a question like this
MMI-style stations for February and March:
- Your classmate posts a patient's X-ray on Instagram with a funny caption. What do you do?Practice a question like this
- A patient demands antibiotics for a cold and threatens to leave you a 1-star review if you say no. What do you do?Practice a question like this
- How would you work with an Indigenous community to design a health screening program together?Practice a question like this
A strong answer names the people involved, makes a clear decision and says what you'd do next. For model answers and feedback on your own, practice each question in the app.
