Assessed in an unfamiliar way

People learn and show what they know in different ways. Some are used to written exams, while others meet oral exams, open-ended tasks or group assessments for the first time. Think about being judged in a format that felt unfamiliar.

The two questions

  1. 1Describe a time you had to learn or be assessed in a style or format that was unfamiliar to you. How did you respond, and why?
  2. 2Tell us about a time you noticed that a way of assessing people suited some people better than others, or helped someone else adjust to an unfamiliar format. What did you do, and what would you do differently now?

What raters look for

Resilience
Recovers from setbacks, manages stress constructively, and learns from failure.
Equity
Notices unequal access or treatment and acts fairly, especially for people with less power.
