UT Austin PharmD interview: a virtual MMI with six 7-minute stations, the 12 qualities it assesses, 2026 session dates, and practice questions we wrote.

The UT Austin PharmD interview format
The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy's interview page says it is hosting virtual interviews for the 2026 application cycle using the Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) format. The MMI runs through six stations, with one or two interviewers per station.

The page does not explain what the Thursday Interview Hour covers, so go by your invitation. It also says you are evaluated for your entire visit with the college, so treat the showcase as part of the interview.
What UT Austin looks for
UT Austin says the MMI assesses non-cognitive qualities and lists them:
- Compassion
- Communication skills
- Critical thinking
- Ethical reasoning
- Integrity
- Leadership
- Motivation to become a pharmacist
- Organizational efficiency
- Problem solving
- Relationship-building
- Respect towards others
- Teamwork
It also says the MMI is not designed to evaluate specific knowledge about pharmacy or medications, but to show how you think and solve problems. The page's own prep advice is short: investigate the college and its programs, practice with another person who can time you and give feedback, understand the purpose of the MMI, and review current health care issues.
What else the page says to prepare
- Knowledge of the profession: be familiar with the current and future roles of pharmacists in health care delivery and give thoughtful, insightful reasons for joining the profession.
- Knowledge of the college: learn general information about the college before you interview.
- Honesty: do not try to second-guess what the interviewer wants. Some interviewers play devil's advocate, and "I don't know" is acceptable when it is true.
- Responsiveness: many questions are chosen to start a conversation, so avoid one-word answers.
- Etiquette: respond to the interview invitation promptly and dress professionally.
How to prepare for UT Austin
- Practice seven-minute stations. Seven minutes is long enough to need structure. Practice answering a scenario with a clear first move, the reasoning and a close.
- Prepare for activity stations. UT says some stations involve a scenario or activity, not just talking. Practice explaining something to someone, or working through a scenario with a partner.
- Be ready for pushback. UT says some interviewers play devil's advocate. Hold your position when you have reasons and update it when you hear new information.
- Learn the profession. Be able to name two or three roles pharmacists play now beyond dispensing, and one change you expect.
- Use the MMI guides. Our MMI practice guide and MMI questions with answers cover the timed-station skills.
UT Austin pharmacy practice questions (written by us, not UT Austin)
UT Austin does not publish its MMI stations. These are ours, built from the qualities it lists. Answer each aloud in about seven minutes.
- A patient picks up a prescription and says they will stop taking it because of a side effect they read about online. How do you respond?
- You notice a coworker consistently rushing through counseling. What do you do?
- Why pharmacy rather than medicine or nursing?
- A physician's order looks like a dosing error but the physician is busy and unreachable. What do you do next?
- Describe a time you led a team, and what you would do differently.
- Two friends in a group project disagree on the approach and the deadline is tomorrow. You are asked to resolve it.
- How should pharmacists decide how much time to spend with each patient when the line is long?
- Tell me about a time you put someone else's needs ahead of your own plan.
- How would you explain a drug interaction to a worried older patient who does not read English well?
- Tell me about a time you made a mistake and how you handled it.

A drill for six stations
- Take six questions from the list and set a seven-minute timer for each.
- Spend the first minute outlining out loud, not silently.
- Ask a friend to interrupt once per station with a follow-up or an objection.
- Score yourself on communication, ethical reasoning, and whether you ended on time.
- Repeat with six new prompts two days later.
