The Warwick Medical School graduate-entry MBChB interview format

Warwick's MB ChB (A101) is a graduate-entry medicine course, and its selection happens at a Selection Centre that uses multiple mini interviews. The applying page lists in-person MMIs on 15 to 18 December 2026, with an MMI on 13 January 2027 for international applicants who cannot attend in person, and says an online option is only offered to those who meet its online interview criteria.

The school's candidate information page, written for the 2026 online session, says the MMIs consist of six stations of approximately 10 minutes each. You are observed and scored at each station by trained assessors who include medical professionals, academics, current students and lay people with an interest in medical education, and a decision on an offer is taken after the Selection Centre. Since the in-person format may differ, follow your 2027 invitation.

Who Warwick selects for the Selection Centre

Invitations are based on academic achievement and UCAT score. Warwick says the total UCAT score needed to reach the Selection Centre varies year to year with the performance of applicants. Because the personal statement is not read for content, work experience, UCAT and your degree carry you to the interview and the MMI itself decides the offer.

Work experience as preparation

The 70-hour requirement is also your main source of interview material. Warwick wants variety, with at least two organisations and two roles or professions, so your stations will draw on situations such as working with colleagues in different professions, supporting a patient or carer, and handling a mistake or a conflict you witnessed. Plan your stories before you arrive, not on the day.

How to cover the qualities

Warwick does not list its scoring criteria on the pages we read, so build your own map from the qualities medical interviews usually test: communication, empathy, insight into your limits, honesty, resilience, respect for others and teamwork. For each, have an example from your degree, work experience or life that shows what you did and what you learned. Graduate applicants usually have more experience to draw on, so the main risk is giving broad answers rather than specific ones.

How to prepare for the Warwick interview

  • Map your 70 hours to the qualities. Pick one example from your work experience for each of communication, empathy, honesty, resilience, respect and teamwork.
  • Practise ten-minute stations. Ten minutes is long for an MMI, so rehearse building an answer with a beginning, a decision and a reflection.
  • Use your degree. Prepare to explain what your first degree taught you about people, evidence or working in a team.
  • Prepare for honesty. Rehearse an honest answer about a mistake and how you put it right.
  • Test any online setup. If you are in the online group, follow Warwick's device checks and system test.

Warwick practice questions (written by us, not the University of Warwick)

Warwick does not publish its stations. We wrote these around general MMI qualities, since Warwick does not list its criteria. Aim for about eight to ten minutes if you have the time, and shorter for questions that are narrow.

  1. Describe a time in your work experience when you saw someone treated with dignity, or without it. What did you learn?
  2. A carer tells you the person they look after has not been eating. How would you respond?
  3. You and a teammate disagree about how to carry out a task in a care setting. What do you do?
  4. What does honesty mean to you in a healthcare setting, and where have you shown it?
  5. How has your first degree prepared you for the pressure of an accelerated medical course?
  6. Tell me about a time you were resilient after a setback.
  7. Role-play: a patient's daughter is angry that nobody has told her what is happening. Respond to her.
  8. How would you recognise your own limits as a student, and what would you do about them?
  9. How would you balance giving a patient time with the demands of a full ward?
  10. Why graduate-entry medicine, and why now?

A drill for six 10-minute stations

  1. Run six 10-minute stations with a partner, with a different quality at each.
  2. Prepare a one-page table of your work experience with qualities matched to examples.
  3. Have your partner pick an example and ask three follow-ups that test whether you did what you say.
  4. Practise a role play where the other person is upset and not ready to listen yet.
  5. Record one station and check that you gave a decision as well as a description.

If you don't have a practice partner, Confetto's AI mock interviews ask follow-up questions based on what you actually said and give rubric-based feedback afterward. The question bank has over 500 questions, and you can start with a 7-day free trial.
